Foundation Develop New Hiring Process for
Veterans with Disabilities |
Job-seeking veterans with disabilities will soon
have a much easier time connecting with employers,
thanks to a hiring process being introduced today. A
typical employer that has a job opening will have access
to a carefully selected veteran who has a disability and
is highly qualified for the job--or a small group of
such veterans--along with information regarding
accommodations and employment incentives for hiring
veterans with disabilities. The employer will then
interview and hire whatever job candidate or candidates
it wishes.
Cincinnati, OH August 24, 2007 -- Job-seeking
veterans with disabilities will soon have a much easier
time connecting with employers, thanks to a hiring
process being introduced today. A typical employer that
has a job opening will have access to a carefully
selected veteran who has a disability and is highly
qualified for the job--or a small group of such
veterans--along with information regarding
accommodations and employment incentives for hiring
veterans with disabilities. The employer will then
interview and hire whatever job candidate or candidates
it wishes.
Three organizations designed and will implement the
process: the military-to-civilian recruiting firm
RecruitMilitary, LLC; The Sierra Group, Inc., which
consults with employers regarding the hiring of
individuals with disabilities; and the Workplace
Technology Foundation, a research and educational
institution focused on the technology of workplace
accommodation.
"The new process will be a boon to both employers and
veterans with disabilities," said Drew Myers, President
of RecruitMilitary and a former Captain in the United
States Marine Corps. "Many employers want to hire
veterans with disabilities, but are not sure how to
accommodate them--for example, how to define the job
responsibilities and what special facilities to provide.
This is especially true of smaller companies. The new
process will fill in the blanks for them. As far as the
job seekers are concerned, the process will help them
show employers how they can make a valuable contribution
in the workplace." RecruitMilitary connects Corporate
America with job seekers among the men and women who
have served in the United States armed forces. The
company's connectivity tools include outsourced
professional recruiting, RecruitMilitary Career Fairs
for veterans and others with military backgrounds,
online hiring products, and advertising space in online
and print media. RecruitMilitary is headquartered in
Cincinnati and was founded in 1998.
Janet Fiore, Chief Executive Officer of the Sierra
Group, said "Our firm is honored to provide our services
to companies wanting to hire veterans with disabilities.
At a time when there is so much negative publicity about
the plight of our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines
as they return from war, there are so many positive
opportunities for veterans with disabilities in the
workforce. Our role in this collaboration is a natural
addition to our existing cadre of services that are ALL
geared to reversing the rate of unemployment for people
with disabilities in America. We are eager to make sure
that all of the companies that want to make a commitment
to these men and women with disabilities can overcome
any barrier to doing so." The Sierra Group consults with
employers regarding the wide range of issues they face
when looking to hire people who have
disabilities--issues that include internal corporate
policies, regulatory compliance, technology-related
accommodation, and risk management. The Sierra Group is
a certified women business enterprise located in King of
Prussia, Pennsylvania. Sierra has been operating since
1992.
How the Process Will Work
The new process will begin when an employer places a job
order with RecruitMilitary and expresses an interest in
hiring a veteran with a disability. RecruitMilitary's
National Recruiting Center in Cincinnati will carry out
its regular initial tasks--scanning databases for
potential job candidates and interviewing those
individuals by telephone. Concurrently, The Sierra Group
will work with the interested employer on accommodation,
risk management, and compliance issues.
As the process progresses, RecruitMilitary will
select the candidates with the most potential and
prepare them to interview with the employer. The Sierra
Group will consult with both RecruitMilitary and the
employer as needed. After a candidate has been hired,
The Workplace Technology Foundation will be available to
help the employer with technological and financial
issues, including the securing of a tax credit for
hiring a veteran with a disability. The Foundation
maintains the Web site
www.employmentincentives.com , which describes
federal and state tax credits that are available to
companies that hire veterans with disabilities.
