Today, at the Georgia International
Convention Center in College Park, RecruitMilitary,
an Ohio-based firm, which connects veterans with
employers nationwide, will host the "Support Our
Troops: Hire a Veteran" job fair from 11 a.m., to 3
p.m.
The event is aimed at helping military personnel,
members of the National Guard and reserves, and
military spouses, transition into civilians jobs.
Soldiers who joined the armed forces right out of
high school often find themselves not knowing where
to go to seek employment, said Robert Walker,
director of career affairs at Recruit Military.
Walker said many employers prefer to hire veterans,
because of their discipline, strong work ethic,
leadership, and technical skills, but have trouble
recruiting them because of the security clearances
on bases. "We're kind of like a bridge, or a
pipeline to get the two connected," he said.
Several employers will be recruiting at the event,
including Aflac, The American Legion, Bill Heard
Chevrolet, DeVry University, the Federal Bureau of
Investigation, Georgia One-Stop, Hanson Building
Materials America, Metalforming, Inc., Military
Spouse Corporate Career Network, New York Life,
Pitney Bowes, Ryder System, Inc., and U.S. Customs
and Border Protection.
